Villeroy & Boch in China

2005- Expansion in key growth markets

A branch of the Bathroom and Wellness Division is opened in Shanghai for the purpose of developing the Chinese market. China's brand-oriented consumers enjoy a high level of purchasing power and hold great potential for Villeroy & Boch. This branch represents a further step towards developing the company's position in major global growth markets.

1911 -Qingdao International Club

Built in May 1910 and completed in October 1911, the Qingdao International Club was the first club built by Germany in Qingdao, and served as a social venue for the upper echelons of German society at the time. Villeroy & Boch tiles from the Saarland were used for the fireplace and other decorative areas. This unique German-style building has survived for a hundred years and is now open to the public as an important historical site and representative building of Qingdao's modern times. The past prosperity can be seen today.

1909 China's earliest unfinished aquarium

In 1909, the Qing Dynasty was in its last days, but the last building of the Ling Numa Xuan was still under construction in the Forbidden City's Yanxi Palace. If completed, it would have been the first aquarium in Chinese history, with a rare Western architectural style and tiles from Villeroy & Boch. This history has been brought back to life by the documentary film "My 600 Years in the Forbidden City", which tells the story of the intermingling of European enterprise, and Chinese empire more than 100 years ago.
